The ones that are installed on my truck look like they were installed with self tapping screws. Not how I would have installed them, but they came with the truck.

I would get the double sided tape

just plain normal double sided tape (thin) or butyl tape stuff? The ones i got from ebay were slightly used and they have grey looking spongy thick tape like silicone(butyl). would that be better?

the double sided tape doesnt hold them down . i wonder if 1 small rivet on each end would do the truick. i can get the back to stay down with tape and silicone but the front are way longer.

did you clean both the sill plate and the sill with alcohol before applying? if the plates are a good fit that should be all that is needed.
