Default Diesel Grades?

This may sound utterly retarded, but the question is nagging me. At almost every fuel outlet there is but one choice for diesel. Yet at a rare few there are two. What is the differance between #1 and #2? Can I run either? Are there gains to be had by running one versus another. I know at the stations that sell both, one is generally much more expensive than the other.... Can someone please enlighten my retardation?

#1 is basically kerosene. Usually it is only in the colder areas in the winter as the gel point is lower. It's harder on your fuel system as there is less lubrication than #2.

So would you recommend running it in the winter or using an additive to defeat the gelling?

I would run additives. If you were going to run #1 I would put a lil2 stroke oilin it.
