im looking at a 99 ram 2500, auto, 4x4, seems to be all stock. i havent stopped and actually talked with a dealer about it yet, sowhat should i look for when i go in?

 

look and listen well.

milage?

how well does it idle? diesels are rugh, but it should not shake like a mis fire (clogged injector or pump malfunction).

look it over carefully for any electrical changes (alarms, etc)

drive it. shift ok?

if its an auto, warm the engine and put it in N, now check the trans dip stick for color and odor.
rotten odor, dark color bad.

the diesel oil will always be black even after an oil change.

look for leaks from the fuel inj pump, engine, trans, rear diff.

take your time, dont feel rushed. they will ride you hard like a 2 bit ***** for the sale.
