Default Smarty Questions

I am thinking about geting the Smarty for my 03 2500 but have a few questions for the people who have them. Once I download the stock mapping can I send this to my computer. Since you are only flashing the ECU I assume you can do multiple trucks with the programmer. I would like to use this on my work truck and my normal everday truck. Is this possible. The trucks are all stock. I also used the exhaust wrap for the manifold and the turbo any cons to this?

I wouldnt wrap the exhaust manifolds as they can get quite hot. On the smarty question, you'll only be able to use it on 1 truck at a time. you will have to set the truck back to stock if you want to move it over to another truck.

welcome to DF...

Why would you say that the it is not a good thing? I would assume that you would want to keep the heat away from the turbo and to make the exhaust work more efficently. The only thing I am concerned about is thebearing in the turbo. Do you have any experience with the Hypertech Stage 3?

Steve is correct; you can only use the Smarty on one truck at a time. For more questions regarding the Smarty, have a look here.

From what I understand, heat wrap keeps the heat inside the object that is wrapped. All it does is keep it relatively cool to the touch. I'm not totally sure but wouldn't this tend to keep your EGT's slightly higher?

the turbo works off of heat energy and expanding gasses. it's gunna get hot, nature of the beast. besides, heat wrapping the exhaust manifold on these trucks is rather useless. the manifold is very thick cast iron. if anything it would keep the heat away from other components.

not realy worth it.

Wow that was quick. So I should be alright by leaving the wrap on? Would hate to take it off after all the time I spent. What about the Hypertech Programmer is this ok with a stock setup. Not looking for a big boost in HP but something to play with and not voifd the warranty.

if you already have it on. . .just leave it. . .wont hurt a thing except for cool down since the wrap will hold the heat in, that would be the time to worry about cooking the oil onto the bearings.

smarty wont clear the key counters and the hour meter like some will. I am unsure about the hypertech programmer if it will do the same or not. besides with the smarty, you get also with it.

Drew, wasnt it you who posted the pic of the glowing turbo & exhaust manifolds? That alone is reason enough to not wrap them... I would take the wraps off personally.

that was a CAT engine under a load failure test. under normal driving, we wouldnt see that. I wouldnt put the stuff on personaly. but since he already has it on I dont see a problem if he lets the engine idle to cool thing off properly.
