Default Familier with Dodge Electrical

I thought of an idea whether it'll work or not is ummm... well lets just say it. It'll probably cause a fire burn me and my truck. Well anyways, I was curious if anyone was familier with Dodge electrical system specifically the light switch. Most of our trucks have a stock cargo lamp which comes on when your roll your dimmer up, my question has to do with the fact that I have a flat bed, the stock cargo lamp doesn't do good. Is there anyway I can run a wire to some bed lamps, It would come from the bottom into the engine compartment. Can I tie into that switch? If I can't I'll probably have to run a wire from another source and attach a switch in the cab. If I do that I'm going to make a little switch board so I can have all my lights and various electical equipment. I was hoping to wait until i had the money to buy a nice setup after I had all the lights ready to be wired. Due to the fact that I wouldn't want to have switches everywhich where and then when I went to rewire it have the holes in the dash or something along those lines.

I am sure someone will chime in but with my limited knowlegs of electricity I think it would be possible to possible hook that wire up to some kind of relay to allow a much larger draw of power. I guaruntee someone will know more then me but it sounds logical

If you use the stock cargo light's wire to activate a solenoid that has the power comeing straight from the battery then yes you can do it, but if you dont use a relay you will burnup the light switch and possibly cause a fire.

This would be a very simple wiring job. You will need to get to the wires behind the light switch. I would run a new power wire, this way you can just tap from that anytime you want to hook up another light or whatever. You will want to hook up your trigger (wire that shows 12v when you turn the switch on) to terminal 86 and vehicle ground to 85. Then take the wire that goes to your lights and hook it to terminal 87. Your power wire that you ran from the battery will go to terminal 30. If you decide to install a switch center you will just run your trigger wire from the switch instead of your healight switch.

I fogot to mention that dodge uses a lot of negative triggers in their switches, if you find a wire that shows ground when you turn the switch on then just hook this wire to 85 and run a constant +12v to terminal 86. It doesnt really matter from where since there will be hardly any current draw from the relay itself.
