power loss, white smoke, VP44injector pump, P0216
I am searching for owners of 99-01 Cummins diesel engines who have had problems with the fuel injector pump. My research indicates poor reliability and common failures of the VP44injector pump used on these model years. Also find that the warranty booklet indicates the diesel engine warranty BEGINS at the END of the basic warranty, technically making the diesel engine warranty 8 years or 136K. Sounds fair, since we paid extra 5K for the diesel, however, Daimler Chrysler denies acknowledgement of that wording and refuses warranty coverage. If you are experiencing the above symptoms read your warranty booklet and search the net. Chrysler is cheating on this and we are paying for the rebuilt pumps.
You are correct, for the most part. There are a very few people I have heard about that have gotten Chrysler to cover these repairs under your logic. I've heard it can be done if you are persistent enough, likely you'll have to fron the money for repair then get a rebate from Chrysler. Good luck with it. As for my failed injection pump a few months ago, my truck had 175k on the clock, pretty well out of any extended coverage.
