Default RE: fuel additives

thanks for the link. I can understand using the additives when you fill up at the pumps w/ ULS..but what about the ones with regular diesel or just Low Sulph diesel? Any need to add the fuel additive in that scenario? I travel all over the place and work in the oilfields so not all towns even have ULS so that is what peaks my curiosity.

8oz of PS gave some improvement, 16oz gave somemore improvement, however with 24oz I actualy saw a decline in improvement. I figured with the 2stroke I would just mix it the same as what I had done with the MMO.

Do you think useing the 1oz per gallon of 2 stroke and still useing the 16 ozs of PS is a good idea?

Overkill ??

I've been using a 16/16 mix... having only the ULSD here in CA it keeps the motor fairly quiet and still mixes in 1 32 oz bottle... 24 oz of 2 stroke works better to quiet the motor down but I think has a negative impact on fuel economy... I have no proof of it since I dont drive regular miles each day...

Well I'm gald to hear that some 3rd gen engines can use 2 cycle oil being mine does not like it at all. I again tried 2 cycle oil, 16 oz mixed in to 32 gallons of fuel and the next day after a 175 mile drive pulling a camp trailer I had an injector sticking at start up and the only other time an injector has done so was when I used 2 cycle oil and PS. I know you may say it was not the 2 cycle oil but I had been using Lucas in every tank up to the time before I went and put in 2 cycle oil. So for my engine I will stick with using the higher cost Lucas and know that I don't have to worry about my injectors sticking on me being Lucas has cleared up the sticking injector both times its happened to me.

sounds like you have a bad injector to me... if it's sticking w/o any additive then there might be some binding somewhere in the injector and the Lucas is providing enough lube to allow it to move freely. Remember, they build thousands of these injectors and no 2 are going to be exactly alike... I'd get all of the additives out, let it stick & take it to the dealer.

I use Stanadyne. I bought a case and use 1/2 a bottle every fill-up, no mixing stuff works great for me.

I buy Stanadyne by the gallon and when I add it to the fuel at fill up time, I calculate the amount needed as per the amount of fuel being added to each of my tanks. By the gallon, it's more economical that way. I use the Perfomance blend, and find that it give me a mile or two better fuel economy, and I'm satisfied that it's lubricating the injectors correctly. I've been using it for a few months now, guess time will tell.

Steve,

I don't think its a bad injector as I have gone with out any additives before and its not acted up but once I empty this tank I will run a few with out any just to be sure. I did notic that when in T/H with the trialer hooked up when I went around a 10 MPH corner and then climbed an 8% grade the trans did a gear hunt real quick so I'm not sure if it is trying to tell me some thing or not as in my part of the state we don't have any 6-8% grades to drive on and the nearest one is over 100 miles away.

Oh I did get 18.034 MPG for the whole 479 mile trip ( I used 26.56 gallons of fuel) and I think that is good being I drove through some small towns in traffic at 5-15 MPH with the camp trailer and gear ( about 4,000 lbs) just to get to camp and then drove on a few up and down grades between 6-8% loaded and then several more when empty while we were looking for a place to fish. My father inlaw can't walk very far nor down any steap banks with big rocks going down to the river. We also did a lot of stopping and driving down gravel roads to see where he could fish at so I think my truck did OK.

Oh I did find out that a short wheel based single axel camp trailer does not like to be pulled at 86 MPH, it will sway back and forth a lot until it gets below 75 MPH[] Ok so I had to pass some slow moving 43 MPH Ferd pick up following a solo semi with a 20 ft box on a 55 MPH Hwy I was in a small hurry as I wanted to get to Pikes Peak camp ground on the Mississippi River to set up camp before dark so after that I never drove over 60 MPH. OK I must confess there was to much traffic on the 2 lane roads to drive any faster [:'(]
