I have the AFE stage 2 w/pg7 filter and love it... however if you open up the exhaust too much with it in there you will loose low end torque for every day driving...

I have been really looking at the S&B intakes, havent heard anything bad about them and they are half the price of afe (less than $200).

How open is too open? 3 1/2' Straight Pipe? Too Open? Plus are there any other suggestions other than AFE to have with the straight pipe?

I only have experience with the K&N setups on gassers (loved them) and the AFE on my CTD. my exhaust setup with the 4" downpipe to an aero 4040 then to a magnaflow gives me great results. I love the way mine runs now and dont anticipate any other changes other than a better turbo... something good up to 45~50 psi.

Is yours an HO motor? if yes than consider the exhaust setup I have. if not, then go to the 4" straight thru and see how you like it. One thing you can do is go 4" straight thru with a mag muffler and if it works great for you then leave it. if your looking for more low end daily driving torque, then add the 4040 right after the downpipe and you'll get it. it'll still be a straight thru setup but you'll have slight backpressure from the aero to help non-boost low end torquefor daily driving.

I have a K&N setup on mine, and I love it. It was a bit expensive, but I have a lot of experience with K&N and they have never steered me wrong. The only issue I have with mine is that the turbo whine can get a bit annoying at first (since, at highway speedsyou can BARELY hear it and it is so high pitched...). I personally believe it to be worth every penny though!

I have had K&N on a couple gassers and liked it. I have the Airraid on my truck now and i like it. The price isn't too bad either.
