Default Engine Light On

I have a 2007 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L CTD engine. I was on my way home, traveling South on the New York State Thruway this afternoon and when I got off at my local Exit I pulled in the Sunoco Station across from the Exit to top the fuel off. I pulled up to the pump. I then decided to move over to the other side of the Diesel pump so I started the truck back up. I then noticed the check engine light is now staying on. I shut the engine off and topped the tank off. After paying I came back out to leave, hoping that the check engine light would come off. It is still staying on. I drove home and parked the truck. I started it back up about 3 hours later, hoping that maybe it cooling off , the light would turn off, but it is still on. All the gauges are reading normal too. I figure I'll have to call my dealership tomorrow if it is still staying on when I drive it to work in the morning. Any ideas on what this could be?

Could it be similar to this issue?

Not sure if this applies to 07's, Turn ignition switch on/off 3 times and leave on (don't start)codes should come up where odometer reading shows. Or take it to your local auto parts place and have them read the codes for you. I'm sure somebody will be along shortly to help. BTW, Welcome!

just list the code(s) that come up and we can tell you if your truck will explode or not.

Thanks to all for your advice. Turned out that the fuel cap was not quite tight. Turned it until it clicked and started engine and thankfully no engine light. My father is not doing too well in the hospital so I need the truck to go visit him, which is an hour drive one way, so I didn't need to have it tied up at the dealership for warranty work. Thanks again!!

2007 Dodge Ram 2500 w/6.7 l. and 6 speed auto. Just bought new two weeks ago w 200 miles. At 827 mi., engine light came on???? Called dealer, they said to run it hard for 20 miles or so....generate some heat! Set cruise to 54 mph in 3rd gear....est ...3100 rpm. Left it there for around 20 miles....by golly it worked. Lights off and purrin' like a kitten. Too easy!

This truck is just bad-*** out of the box....
