Default lockout hubs

Is there a true need for the lockout hub conversion? I know that FORD still uses them on their heavy duties, but is the AAM front axles better therefore rendering the lockouts unnecessary?

Default RE: lockout hubs

it is all in what the manufacturer specifies. are the AAM axels any tougher than the ones ford and GM uses. . .maybe, maybe not. however the lockout hubs do save alot of wear and tear on the front axel.
