Now that the tank has been dropped and the gas was drained it has been onstuck onfull. I did change all the filters and oil but that would be a huge increase in mileage. Is there any way to reset the guage or does the tank need to be dropped again?

I would try pounding on the tank a little. The float is obviously stuck and maybe some vibration will help it get loose. Other than that, ya you're going to need to drop the tank again to see what it's hung up on.

btw... I hope it wasn't gas that was drained..... your truck prefers fuel

Also you can hold the trip/odometer/trip reset button and turn the key on and see if that helps. It'll go through and check all your gauges.

I must have missed it. Is that why the tank was dropped... gas ? If that's the case and it was in there for a while, you may need a whole new fuel pump assembly or at least a rebuilt one. I don't know for sure but, I'm betting you melted some rubber gaskets or o-rings or, since the whole assembly is plastic.... the float may have melted to the plastic.

Hope that's not the case.....

If the wire going to the sendind unit is grounded it will read full all the time.
check to see if you pinched thw ire when reinstalling the tank.

I disconected both battery grounds for about a half hour. That did not seem to work, However when I went to get some estimates for the body damage my nephew did, I ran into some road construction that closed off the entrance to one of the body shops so I took it of road the truck bounced aruond pretty good then the guage started working so Tritons idea would have worked. By the way it will be about $1500.00 for the little bastard.

Wanna know some great side subject information about unleaded in diesel! Went to the local town gas station. Stopped at one of the 3 pumps that sell diesel. had a sticker on it saying out of service then something scribbled implying such as go in and have em set a certain amount. Well I go in. She tells me that the guy who drops fuel off at the station filled up the diesel tank with UNLEADed! Imagine if you were getting some fuel for your truck and transfer tank. Say your going to put 100 gallons in. Start pumping. Go. next thing you know your 100 miles away. Why's my engine acting funny. Luckily I didn't hear of anyone getting it. Crazy huh.
