On Board Air system, Anyone done one?
With my recent trip I have become aware how nice it would have been to have an On Board Air system to air up tires on the trailer when needed and to air up truck tires to proper levels for towing. Plus having had a flat in the middle of nowhere and then finding out my jack wont lift the trailer. The ability to have had an air over hydraulic jack and an impact gun would have made things nice.
This is the one I am thinking of

Iam considering plumbing air to the front and rear of the truck for simplicityof use.
Not only the ability to air up tires entices me, but then it will be a good reason to add airhorns (evil grin).
Anyone else done one of these and have any recommendations or pitfalls to watch out for?
Or maybe wanted to do one...maybe if we get enough people interested we could find someone to give a discount on them.

All I have to say is DAMN YOU![:@] I have been wanting to do one, especially with my upcoming trip. I however, find myself not wanting to look for one and be ignorant in my "knowlege" that there is not one out there... I have a spare air compressor (5 gal one I think...) that I have been meaning to rig up to make work on the truck (mount it under the bed near the spare tire and custom making a PTO setup for the compressor...) but this kind of thing gives me an excuse to spend MORE money. I am already buying an Edge, an exhaust brake, exhaust... and not to mention the stuff for the new trailer (hitch, brake controller and such...).
They have a new winch from warn that had a air compressor built in. My brother in law got one for christmas and it is pretty neat. He has it dual mountable, and the air tank comes in handy.
Those are cool, they cost about 1250 bucks, but if you needed a winch as well I suppose that is not such a bad deal. I believe the max is 100psi, the one I am looking at is 150psi, not that I need 150psi, other than for a kickass airhorn!
I have a system that includes a Viair 325C and a 2.5 gallon tank, mounted on the outside of the frame on the passenger side. I bought it as a kit from Air Horns of Texas for $369. They also have a kit with the 450C and a 5 gallon tank for $429. Check out this page: http://www.airhornsoftexas.com/compr...ompressor.html
One pitfall to watch out for: if you connectthe solenoid (for the horn) backwards, it allows the air to leak out of the tank and you will think your compressor is defective.

There was a write up in one of the recent Diesel Power magazines about an engine mounted belt driven compressor, biggertank, and plumbing install. It was just what you are looking for. If I find the issue I will post it. Those little electric compressors even with a tank would take for ever to inflate a tire on our trucks, and are not going to last long if you use it alot. Some guys I knew many years ago used to convert A/C compressors in to air compressors and mount a tank and plumbing. They were big on fishing and camping on beaches. They would deflate their tires for beach running then pump em back up when they got back to the street.
One of the farmers I worked for had a compressor that I believe just pumped the air as you needed it. Didn't have a tank or anything. Was just electrical connected to your battery. Just looked like a box with a hose sticking out. Not sure if it had a tank, but It'd always start up right when ya started sucking air.
