Default Posi question?

What style posi is in our differential. Is it a spool style or clutch pack? Why I am asking is, I have 22K on her now and I am going to change over to synthetics. If it is a spool style, I shouldn't need the friction modifiers.

Thanks,

Steve

I am not sure, but Royal purple is good for either way, you dont have to add the friction modifier even if it calls for it.

well deff does not have a spool.... spool is a racing or extreme 4X4 piece so deff does not have it. but royal purple has a friction modifyer in it that would work for any type of limited slip style diff.. clutch pack type or cone type or even locker style diffs...

I do believe that the posi unit in the Dodge trucks is a clutch unit.
I think they call it trac-lock.
Wait for more chatter , but I'm pretty sure you need an additive.

your 06 uses a worm gear setup, no clutches, no friction modifyer needed. just get 75-90 in your favorate flavor and your good. a hair over a gallonin the rear and a bit over a half gallon for the front.

Thanks. I didn't think it had clutches, but wanted to be positive. I have 2 gallons of Amsoil and I'm waiting on getting a Mag-hytech cover.

Thanks again,

Steve

Yup no clutches in there, and owners manual says no modifier needed. My dealer techs don't know this and always put it in anyway, and didn't believe me when I told them.[:@]
