A/C compressor clutch won't kick on
Drove my 05 dodge QC CTD this morning for the first time and the A/C worked fine and after about 15 miles it just blows hot air. I checked the clutch and it's not turning. The fuse and relay are ok. Is there any moreother than in the fuse block? Does anyone have a wiring diagram so I can check if it's getting power to the clutch? Is there a high and low pressure switch on these? This was lightly wrecked when I got it so I thought maybe I have a connection problem to look for but everything looks ok as far as I can see.

RE: A/C compressor clutch won't kick on
There is a low pressure switch that will not allow the clutch to kick in if the coolant is too low. I am not sure about the high pressure switch, but think there may be one of those as well.

It seemed to cool too good to be low on freon. I haven't jumped the low pressure switch to see if that's what stopped it from cycling.

I found the high pressure switch but not the low side. Any ideas? I followed the line but didn't see any.

after checking closer, the #16 fuse was blown. I replaced it and just as soon as I turned the a/c back on it blows thew fuse again. Any ideas now?

find out where number 16 goes and look for a short to the body somewhere along the way

Heres a wiring diagram.
Connector "C130" looks like its located by the firewall, in the middle. "C112" is located by the water-in-fuel sensor. |
RE: A/C compressor clutch won't kick on
I'd say look for shorts or a rubbed harness.
another thing I would look for would be wires that are rubbing the metal lines going to and from the compressor. |
RE: A/C compressor clutch won't kick on
I unplugged the connector atthe compressor and put a test light on the wires to make a circuit and turned it on and the test light lights and the fuse does not blow. Just as soon as I plug it into the compressor, the fuse blows. The dealer shop mechanic said it's the clutch coil shorting out. How much of a job is this to change?

RE: A/C compressor clutch won't kick on
It was the coil shorting out....put another one in and it works again.
