Well, just got back from Columbus, close to 700 mile trip. Figured out the milage with pen and paper, and came out with 19 mpg. This with running close to 2300-2400rpm most of the way, with a couple of detours along the way (how many can say you were on the campus of UofM and OHIO STATE in the same day?). Any way, for having such a low gear I can accept this. Will try some 55 mph stretches to see if it will run up a little higher. A new high flow air intake is well worth the money in my opinion and anyone thinking of adding parts to there truck should do this first.
A little ways back in a previous post Savage.basher asked if it was really a 4:10 gear ratio. I had to go out to double check and yes it is. Here is the codes that were on a sticker in the glove box-
DEE- 6-spd HD manual trans
DMF- 4:10 axle ratio
DRX- 11.50 dual wheels rear
DSA- anti-spin differential rear
PS2- primary paint
QS2- secondary paint
Took me awhile to find a truck with this axle ratio as most all trucks around here are quad cab short box 4x4 3/4 ton. A 2-wheel drive long box and stick shift is a rare bird up here! But with a fifth wheel loaded up that floats between 13,000 and 14,000lbs and a hitch weight a little over 3000lbs, I needed something with all the grunt I could find, short of a freightliner. And to think of the people that said "you can't pull a trailer with a stick" must have been driving something other than a dodge!
