Default 48re filter change question

I recently bought 2004.5 QC with the 48re trans. I changed the filter and fluid. The service manual says a service fill is 4qts. I have put in 6qts. just to bring it up to an acceptable level on the dip stick. I am checking it warmed up and in neutral. Is this normal?

When I took mine in to be serviced they told me it only took 4 qt's too and I needed to know ahead of time as I use Amsoil ATF. But in the end it took 6.5 qts of fluid to fill mine all the way up and I was lucky that I could buy more Amsoil ATF at a store near the dealership.
