sorry.... 5.9 = minimal problems, if you can get them to buy it back under the lemon law and still want a CTD... 5.9 is the way to go imo

Hey Forum,
This is for all of you people who are having problems with your 6.7 cummins. I bought my truck in october of 07 and have had several problems with them. The first thing you have to do is be very vocal with your service manager. It came to a point that they hated to see me come in. I have kept all tickets and make sure your milage in logged on the ticket when it arrives and when it departs. If you do not have your tickets you can go to your service department and get archives and a copy of all service tickets. call chrysler and complain when you do log time, date, and person. They will try to blow you off but continue. Then file a complaint against chrysler with better business bureau. They will reply about you are not driving properly. Continue to file complaints talk to general manager of dealership and express your problems. My truck has been in the shop about 6 times since october 07 and they have replaced the turbo, several computer downloads, the latest is they replaced the catalatic converter, o2 sensor, and particulate filter. Dodge finally called and offered me a replacement put they are trying to make me pay 32 cents per mile for usuage. That is where my problem is and that is where your milage log is important. I will keep you updated on my progress.

have you all contacted cummins, they are aware of the problems. i haven't had any problems with mine yet. but with the number of folks on this and other dodge truck forums that are having problems, sounds like a collective could produce a lot of negative publicity for both cummins and dodge. decisions are made 98% of the time based on fear. looks like they should be subjected to a little of it.

Well I'm about to join the Dodge group, Cummins Mega Cab, and it looks like Chrysler doesn't care about customers. I had a problem with my chevy soon after purchase where the shop manager charged me for few hundred dollars on transmission repairs not covered by warranty. After repairs they said i needed a new trans, covered by warranty. I didn't think it was fair for me to pay for somebody elses mistake, they didn't care. Called GM, they told me to pay the bill and they would cut me a check. A week later my check was in the mail. They insisted if i come in contact with a dealer ship thats not taking the appropriate action to call GM. After so many calls the dealer ship relation with GM will be lost.

Hope i'm not making the wrong decision but who can resist a cummins mega cab!

according to an engineer for dodge the problems all have fixes: this is an excerpt from the email i received today. "My discussions with Cummins and the dealers is that if all of the specific procedures called out in the latest service bulletins are carried out the problems are resolved.
Please give me the last eight numbers of your VIN and the Dealers name and I'll see if I can get a Cummins service person to look at the situation."

is it possible the dealers are not doing their job or the communication between dodge and the dealerships breaks down.

i know there are dodge dealerships that I would never consider taking a vehicle to. they are lazy in following through on problems because it costs them money and their "mechanics" don't have a clue about what they are doing.

Question for all you folks with troublesome 6.7l. Are you working these trucks or are they grocery getters? Do you run with exhaust brakes on? Do you drive mostly highway or mostly city? Many service depatments are replacing turbos due to carbon build up, hoping this clears the CEL/regen sequence!? While others just add bandaides ontop of bandaides, hoping either it fixes the issues! 6.7s need to have EB on at all times and run up to tempature for extended run times. This will greatly aid in the regen. Remember cummins are meant to work and work hard. Do not idle these things any longer then a few minutes!

good luck to all the 6.7 owners, hope the problems get fixed ad very soon!!

unfortunately 80% of my driving is in city traffic or traffic jambs on the freeways. construction is not a long haul business. i came into 2008 6.7L after disposing of an 03 and 05 5.9L CTD dullys. the problem is the dealer does not give the customers that little tidbit of info. believe me you can work the hell out of these trucks towing in hilly country without ever going on the freeway.
my approach is preventive maintenance and that is why the correspondence with cummins and dodge engineers. i'm am not thrilled with the prospect of a 50,000+ investment going into the tank. I also do not feel it is my responsibility to jump through hoops and work out expensive truck exercises to compensate for engineering shortcommings. i cut them no slack.
i have been an avid loyal chrysler/dodge/mopar customer for over 40 yrs.

Default 6.7L Diesel Software upgrade

Ok guys.
I have been reading about all the problems with the "engine" light coming on. Well with 15,000 plus miles, mine just came on. Took it to the dealer yesterday (9/5/08) and told them that the lite had come on. My service supervisor Jerry Lord at the Dodge dealer said they were aware of it and it was a software problem. They had just gotten the fix. So...... Dropped off the truck at 11:00 am and picked up the truck at 4:30 p.m.. New software was loaded up and they also did a few other "tweeks" to the truck. There is also an issue with the "mixers" on the AC. They fixed that too.

Wow, didn't realize the difference in the AC till now, and one day later, everything is ok. So, point being... New software is in. I can't say if all dealers/service centers have it. but I'll keep you guys posted if the software upgrade fixed anything.

the new software is not working. there are some good points in this fourm if all you do is short trips you need to read your manual about regeneration and do it. It might not be right that you have to jump through hoops the keep it running. But it could save down time. But if it's just to run the kids to school and not a work truck why speed all the $$$
We put lifts and big tires on all the time. The truck never go's off road or long trips or works at all. It's just mines is b***er than yours lol
