Default Time to change the valve cover gasket?

If anyone has some pics or some pointers I'm all ears and eyes.
I seem to have a leak in the back and figure next weekend during labor day will be a good time to fix it.
This would prabably be a good time to adjust the vavles too.
Any help would be appreciated. thanx

Actually I recently purchased a 24V valve cover gasket from Cummins (actually a Peterbilt dealership that is also a distributor), the gasket was $59 including the shipping charge, I was quite surprised. I ended up returning it because mine is just fine, I wanted to have it when I adjusted the valve lash just in case. Basically, buy it from Cummins if you can, much cheaper thattaway.
