The VP44 probably isn't dead. Technically it will pull enough fuel to run your truck to about 35mph before it starts being a problem and bucking. BUT, its not a good idea since you're putting a ton of strain on the VP44 and are running a very good chance of killing it then. So, change the lift pump quick.
