Default service question ?

How much does it typically cost to change out all fluids in a 05 3500 ram 4x4 ? I recently bought this truck and not sure how the guy was on maintaining these items. I'd feel better knowing there is fresh fluids in there.

Your question is a little vague. There are a lot of variables such as the quality of the lubricants and whether you do the work yourself or have a shop do it. Here is what it would cost to use Amsoil, minus any labor charges and not including shipping or tax:

Engine oil, 15W-40 synthetic, 3 gallons - $59
Trans fluid (auto trans, transfer case, power steering), synthetic ATF,4 gallons - $101
Gear oil, Severe Gear synthetic 75W-90, 7 quarts - $62
Anti-freeze, Amsoil propylene glycol, 8 gallons - $154

Obviously it would be a lot cheaper to use non-synthetic oil and ethlyene glycol coolant. Personally I am a proponent of Amsoil and I think they make the finest lubricants.

I had the same dilema that you have. I bought my truck as a repo and have just about fought all the little demons that the guy that had it before left behind for me. My advice would be to use conventional fluids for right now and in about three or four months go ahead and swap them out again in case there is any build up that is in your lines, etc and before you drop a bunch on synthetic fluids. Also, don't forget to change the fuel filter and keep an eye on it. In a truck that's had a hard owner the fuel filter gets overlooked a lot and can keep your truck from running at its full potentiial. Good luck.

thanks... I used to do most of the oil changes myself but since I have gotten much busier and this is the first diesel truck owned I was wondering how much I should expect to be charged to have all of this done

You should have written it like this:

Engine oil, 15W-40 synthetic, 3 gallons - $59
Trans fluid (auto trans, transfer case, power steering), synthetic ATF,4 gallons - $101
Gear oil, Severe Gear synthetic 75W-90, 7 quarts - $62
Anti-freeze, Amsoil propylene glycol, 8 gallons - $154
Doing the work yourself, and knowing it was done right - PRICELESS!

Welcome to the forum. I agree with you. I try to do everything myself. My first diesel. I have plenty of expirience with gas motors but diesel seemed a little intimidating at first, now I am not so scared.
