Better Performance???
I have only had my truck for a month and I towed my first load with it yesterday. I towed a 1972 Ford tractor that must have weighed 8K-10K lbs. My truck pulled it great and I was very happy. I towed it about 180 miles and the truck seemed to gain power the longer I towed. Now that I am unhooked the truck seems to run much better than it did before. I gave it hell when I was pulling the load up and down some hilly country. Is it possible that running the truck hard gave me better performance in the end. The acceleration seems much quicker and smoother than ever. I know I just unhooked 10K lbs, but Ihave driven 100 miles since then and I still think it is running better. I thought I had heard something about this before, but I wasn't sure. Just curious about what you guys thought.
I think it is partly because you were used to pulling the weight and partly because you "cleaned it out". I tow my camper almost every weekend and I believe there is a difference in how it runs after towing.
A heavy tow will help do the final break-in on the Cummin's. Gets everything seated just right
You're not crazy and your not overly-in love w/ your truck. It is more than likely running better.
(and I wont make any jokes about you saying you pulled "the load up and down some hilly country" we all know what Texas looks like
