Default engine classifacation

I just bought a used 96 2500 Turbo diesel, question does Cummins give these engines their version of a model number not just 5.9L? How long does the average turbo last in these engines.

there is a metalic nomenclature information plate on the engine . usually by the fan shroud. that will give the engine type, size, and what not.
