Default Tightening bands

I read in the manual that the 30k mi service for the 48re trucks include a trans fluid/filter change along with tightening of the bands. What kind of bands? Chain or rubber? Will that keep the transmission from slipping? Can I do it myself? Thanks

there should be 2 studs w/ nuts in the trans. maybe 1 outside.

I made the mistake of havin a trans guy adjust mine. ok, he rebuilds the transmissions at work. could he adjust it right??? hell no!!! he got the low and reverse bands inside the trans but there is an external adjuster (on my 46re) that he swore did not exist. it controlls the kick down. trans was all over the place before, now with me adjusting it, its smooth! grab your haynes, chiltons, or other manual. cruse the link above. its not hard. make sure you go to napa, dodge, carquest, or some other top o the line parts place (not cheaper (checker) or vautozone (autozone) . they canNOT seem to be able to match ANY parts to a DIESEL since the parts are HEAVY DUTY and not standard. the filter is standard. but still, I wouldnt trust em.

Cool , thanks a lot. Do you suppose that the 2005 and the 2006 48re adjustments are the same? Because that list only shows up to 2005. I bet the dealer would charge at least $100 for this. Thanks for the help Baja, I really appreciate it.

Is the stock pan gasket reusable or do I have to buy a new one? Are the only supplies needed- Tq wrench, sockets (ones specified), ATF, filter ? Thanks again Kevin.

napa or carquest.

locate a reusable gasket - rubber - not paper

you will need a box or open end wrench to hold the nut on the stud when torquin back.

Make sure you don't get ft-lbs and in-lbs confused. The bands don't get cranked down real tight.
