Diesel Price
Gasoline and diesel are derivatives of crude oil, crude oil is pumped from the oil pools (reservoirs) under pressure as the pressure is released the lighter ends flash off (ie. methane and ethane) then you have the NGLs (natural gas liquids) these contain the propanes, butanes, isopropanes and isobutanes and so on. Next comes the gasolines, jet fuels, kerosenes and diesels. To put it simplyand not go into too much detail the NGLS are heated and distilledat different pressures, as the pressure is dropped different products remain a liquid and are "distilled" or dropped out.As each product is separated they go through the different parts of the refinery for "refinement".
Many products we use in everydayare made or derived fromcrude oil or natural gas. Diesel pricesat the pumps are due to the demandand to some degreefalse information to aritficiallyinflat the price. If we stopped making plastic products we would see a huge decline in the price of natural gas as we would see in diesel or gasoline. Governments from federal to municipal all add their"tax", these taxes at least in Canada add upwards to70 -80% of the cost per gallon/litre. Those that believe, demand doesn't contribute to the price need only to look at Cuba or south american countries, where very fewprivate vehicles areowed(less demand). The price for gasoline is almost at "give away" prices. Diesel on the other hand is expensive due to the number of farmers/plantations (demand)using diesel powered vehicles, albeit they are heavily government subsidized.
Its all a gimmick, take for example years ago when leaded gasoline was still on the market, then came the unleaded stuff. We paid dearly for the "unleaded" stuff, funny thing though, lead was added to gasoline, it didn't come from the ground with lead in it. The refineries said we had to pay more for unleaded due to the cost of removing it!? Remove it?? It was an additive!! Government watch dogs will let these people get away with "gouging" because as the price goes up so does the revenuefor "at the pump taxes".
just my $0.02....
