Default Built tranny? $2,200?

Hey guys,

Just got back from my near tranny shop called Petersburg Transmission and all my freinds have been there to build there power jokes and d-max trannys. This guy had built many dodge trannys as well. He said, he will completely build the stock one I have in the truck for $2,200. All the parts he listed where well known and my tranny is already slipping with the Edge. And this is ALOT cheaper then going with ATS or something like that?

Any comments on the price he gave me? or any other ideas on what to do?

Thanks!

Funny, I just made a similiar call today and was told a very similiar price. I was told they would re-do my VB because it was still new (instead of replacing it), and replace the torque converter for around $2k.
He said there was no reason to install a billet input shaft. He said he has 25 years doing this and says these input shafts are pretty hefty and has not seen one break. Then again he also tried to talk me out of doing anything to my truck because Dodge will not warranty it at all if I do. Telling me multiple times to just leave it alone, saying "jeez the thing is rated at over 300 horsepower and over 600lbs of torque how much more could you want?" To which I just nicely replied "twice that". He again re-iterated "you are going to void your warranty, then where are you gunna be?" I told him in a very nice voice "It's only money man, you gotta pay if you wanna play! Thanks for your time."
I think I will find someone else. Actually I think I have, someone that does Goerends stuff, and less than an hour away from me.

Dang man. The guy I went to was cool as hell. He was like, man, after you build that tranny with us, lets turn up that edge and give it the level 6 hot unlock code as well. And then after that maybe some injectors and gears in the rear end....

but of course I dont have a warrenty anyways...but unlocking the hot box code will void my edge warrenty...which is all good for me if its worth the level 6..

This guy is doing everything for 2,200....

torque converter, bands, valve body...and maybe some more i just cant remeber..lol

a "built" trans could mean anything. you should ask for a complete list of new parts they will be using.

to rebuild my trans to hvy stock its about $2000 and its a first gen!

This is just my opinion , but if your gonna shell out that kinda money,
you oughta upgrade to a bigger tranny cooler , if you haven't already.
Oh yeah , one of those largeatlas tranny pans with the drain would be great too.

You will also want a good billet triple disc converter installed and they get close to $1,000. After that the price that he gave you would leave only doing a quick rebuild with the cost of clutches, steels, seals, orings, and a valve body. The valve body should cost around $450 for a built unit or $100 for a kit to do it your self. In my opinion that price is a little low.
