Towing question
Thanks, guys, this is the kind of info I was looking for. Since I'm new tothe CTD's and manual transmissions, I thought I'd ask, rather than winging it and hoping I was right. Since my fifth wheel RV only has a GVW of 6100 lbs, I guess my truck will pull it anywhere I want to go, in just about any gear that allows the RPM to be above about 1600.

With a manual put it in whatever gear works for the current conditions.
The OD issue is more with Automatics. You don't want them shifting up and down hunting for a gear as it generates excessive heat.
Also, the issue isn't whether the engine is strong enough. It all has do to with protecting the tranny. On some vehicles with Automatics some have noted higher tranny temps when running in OD. The theory there is that at slower RPM's less fluid is being pumped to cool it. Whether true or not it doesn't apply to sticks.
