2003 6speed 2wd Vibration, Any Sug.
Howdy, I have a 2003, Dodge, 2500, Cummins, 6 speed, 2wd, 373,four door, long bed. I have had it for 2 years now and have had no engine or drive line troubles till now. It started when I was pulling my 5th wheel; I began to get a vibration while in 2nd gear. Now I have noticed with out the 5th wheel I still get a vibration in 2nd (not near as bad) and some going into 3rd. If I slow down just right I can feel it at about the same speed as well. And even more recently I have started to hear (more than feel) it at around 70mph, real quiet but I can still hear the difference over the normal racket. And today while getting on it, at around 80-85 I got one hell of a vibration, it almost sounded like I had strait pipes, if it weren’t for the fact that I could feel it I would have thought I busted my pipes. But I was just wondering if any one has any suggestions. I have tried fooling around with the tires some by putting the spear on all four corners but no difference. I travel everyday and am not able to just drop it off to get looked at, not real sure what I'm going to do when I find out what it is, but if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Bcaro

Thanks, The truck has about 99k on it, I have changed u-joints on other vehicles inthe past, but I'm not that smart when it comes to knowing if one is bad or not. How, if you can, check them to see if they are bad or not.I thought it might be the spinner/carrier bearing but from what I can tell it dosen't seemworen out or to have excessive play in it.

usually when a ujont start to go bad, you'll get a vibration at freeway speeds, expecially when your on the throttle. When they get bad enough, you'll here a ping when you let the clutch out. And when they get really bad you can grab the driveline and watch them move in their caps.
I had a big truck machinist check it out, and I'll be damned if it didn't quit. He drove it anyways and checked the u-joints and carrier bearing and he said that he could find anything or any excessive heat or anything. But now it's not doing it, which concerns me even more. I can barley feel it in 2nd still but not enough to prove it to someone. Not sure on my next step, the only reason I was able to take it in was because we got rained out today so I'm really hoping I can figure it out today.

The vibration is back, now I also feel it at high speed when I go through a dip. It seems to vibrate very loud when the truck compresses down at the bottom of a dip or after hitting a bump. Not sure what that might mean but I don't guess I know what any of it means.
