that is a possiblity, doesnt look too thin though. I dont see anything wrong with the gears in there that I can tell... no scoring of any sorts.

You'll never get that smell out. If everything looks good in there (I'd check backlash on the ring gear while you got it apart). Toss some clean oil in there and drive it, see how much noise it makes.

 

yeah he wasnt kidding it smells horrible.... i had a tough time getting the last 3 bolts off the diff plate, i had to have a certain someone show me in the right direction[sm=helpout.gif]

 

hey guys... Bud91gmc350 is my son, the wrencher on this project. the last 3 bolts he speaks of required accessing them from a different location... a nice big access hole in the front splash guard...

hopefully the diff wasnt hurt too bad by that

 

yeah it seems like they try to make a lot of things difficult to get to lol
