Default Truck shifts from Drive to Overdrive. HELP ??

I havea problem with my, 98.5 cummins 2500. The tranny seems to search for gears. If I'm in drive it will shift from drive to overdrive alot at about 45 mph. I found a loose ground wire one of my batteries, I tightened it up and it didn't surge from overdrive to drive for a few days. The only thing is, mine will do it whether I have it in drive or overdrive. Should it do this in overdive?, or does it sound like my torque converter. Is there a sensor that can go bad and cause this. I don't have any codes showing either. It seems like I have to mess with my batteries every few days to keep this from happening.

Thanks

That is your tc locking and unlocking. Most common is bad grounds at the battery. Clean up your batt terminals real good and make sure they are all tight.

clean your grounds good. . .and also clean the other end of the cable that goes to the frame. . .that should clear things up.

I thik you've answered your own question here.

I too had the same problem on my 98.5. I cleaned the terminal grounds and the ground to the frame and it shifts as good as new. Clean ALL of the terminals and spray them with some Permatex battery terminal protectant and you'll be good to go.

I was having this same problem. I would NEVER have thought it could be such an easy fix.

Me neither, but it really is.

Did it fix your problem as well?

Yes it fixed it. I just bought the truck last year. I had to replace the throttle computer right away.
To about 1100 dollars. When this first started I was sure it would be equally painful.
