Default Help...bad noises

So I got the head back on last friday, torqued it again on Saturday, drove the truck for a couple days and then torqued it again today (Wed). I checked the valve lash after I torqued it every time. The truck sounds great, seems to run great until about 38 psi of boost, then I can hear a slight ticking that will get louder if I take it to a higher amount of boost. It sounds a lot like a Jake brake in the way it sounds (the way it pulsates), any suggestions? Could it be caused by something as simple as maybe some oil residue in the intake piping? (a tool fell apart and I felt around inside the intake tubing just to make sure it hadn't gotten in there and my hands were oily and I didn't think about it until it was too late.) I'm at a total loss as to what it could be because I just retorqued everythingand checked the valve lash.

Check for an exhaust leak at the manifold.

Thanks for the suggestion Jake, I'll check that tomorrow. Would that be boost related though?

A boost of 38 sounds pretty high to me, but what do I know.

In the meantime, post some more pics of your ladyfriend. Get her birthday and we'll include her in the calender.

Boost is related to exhaust flow. The more flow, the faster the turbine spins. Exhaust pressure goes up and that could be causing it to leak only under boost. I could use a sound clip of it to be more accurate though.

38? Nah, that should be perfectly fine, 50 should be fine now with the studs and cometic gasket. As far as her birthday it is the 13th of November. I'll post one more of my lady friend, but you get me and some rocker arms as well.

Jake, I guess that would probably be higher than just using the exhaust brake, or maybe I just can't hear it when I'm using the exhaust brake, but yea, it does sounds like a single cylinder.

I went out and tightened all the exhaust manifold bolts after work today, on the way to work when the outside temperature was lower it did it at around 26 pounds of boost, after I tightened everything tonight it did it at about 38 pounds of boost. I reused the gaskets for the exhaust manifold, could that be my problem? I just thought of this, but I guess the manifold could have cracked. The problem didn't start right away after I got everything all torqued together and started driving it. It was the 4th or 5th time I got in to her a little. I was just seeing how it felt since I had never really spooled up the new turbo because I didn't have the studs in yet, I think the first time it was at like 46ish psi. There was no sudden loss of power or anything just a noise that sounded like a jake brake on low. I guess I'll bring my camera and try to get a sound clip tomorrow. I think the highest boost so far was 48, should be fine with that cometic gasket and the ARP studs, no fluid leaks.

Take a spray bottle with some soapy water, let the engine idle with the exhaust brake on and spray at all the gaskets, if there is even a small leak you should see it.
