Default Oil Change Interval

As you can probably tell, I am a first time diesel owner. I have a 07 Mega Cab 3500 with a 5.9 CTD.I am looking for input on when to change your oil. According to the dealer, they say it should be changed every 12000 km. My Father-in-law has a 05 F-350 and his dealer recommends he change his oil every 6000 km. I e-mailed Cummins and they said to follow the vehicle manufactures recommendations. 12000 km seems like a long time between oil changes. I have just under 8000 km on the truck and looking for some advice as this will be its first oil change.

For me every 5,000 miles with Valvoline Premium Blue (cause it has a big C on the label)and either a Mopar or Fleetgaurd filter.

welcome to DF...

I went the 15k once on Amsoil... it was supposedly good for up to 25k but the oil didnt make it (oil analysis). came back contaminated at the 15k mark. flushed it, refilled with mobil delvac and resampled at 2900 miles and came back clean. So now on the next oil change @ 5k I'll be going back to Amsoil and swapping at 5~7500 mile intervals. oil is cheep compared to a rebuild.

I change mine around every 7500 miles with good old Shell Rotella 15W-40. With the new CJ-4 spec oil I try my best to stay under 9k miles on the change.
