Default Rebuilt Tranny

Well guys, i mentioned in a earlier post bout getting my shift kit done on my 03' auto. It worked nice untill last week, first gear was out of it. Took it back to the tranny shop and told him to replace the soleinoid that tells the tranny to shift down. He called me the next day and told me i could keep wasting money on soleinoids or rebuild it now. I was a little ticked. You would think if dodge spends so much money on these cummins engine, they would spend some extra money to put a good tranny behind it. One that will last longer that 95000 miles. So I had it rebuilt for 2200 dollars. OUCH! Not really for what I got, I got 6 pinion gears instead of 4 pinion like the factory, a stage 3 torq converter, and we kept the built valve body he had already done when we put the shift kit in. Did a hell of job, and I dont think ill have any trouble at all now.

So you still have the stock valve body with the shift kit installed in your rebuilt tranny? Is it the Trans-go shift kit for the 48-RE? I just got mine in the mail, andhave yet to tear it open and read the instructions to see if I can install it myself.Any advice you can give about your recent experience? Thanks

What brand of parts did you decide to fill it up with during the rebuilt?

dudeif you havn't noticed almost all stock auto trannies are junk at least IMO. if you buy an auto expect to rebuild it and while ur at it you may as well make it able to handle whatever you throw at ti which is exactly what you did. All the cars my mom every ownded were auto and every one died at like 100-125k miles. and they were always buggy throughout the cars life. they just never felt like they were strong and weren't fun to drive.

I am not sure what brand of parts he put in it, but I can find out for you. As far as the shift kit, I do think it was a trans-go, not sure. And it depends on how mechanically inclined you are, it didnt look to hard when he told me what was involved. I do know he reprogrammed the ECM and adjusted the bands when he did it. Depending on how many miles you got, Id be careful cause my tranny guy said that shift kit was probably too much for the rest of the tranny and caused it to shoot crap. He told me the torque converter was shot. Oh, ya it is the stock valve body w/ the shift kit. Also, he had to drill a few holes in the plate so fluid can flow certain places. Other than that it didnt sound too difficult.
