Default What temperature to plug in and tips how to start

I have a 2004.5 dodge diesel and was wondering what temps everyone starts plugging in at? Right now where I live nights are going down to -5 degrees celcius and i was thinking of plugging it in at -15 celcius. What do you guys do?

Also wondering when its cold and you get in truck how long do you cycle the intake preheat before turning it over? Is the 20-30 seconds enough? My remote start waits 10 seconds but I dont think thats long enough.

I plug mine in for about 4 hours prior to leavingwhen it's around 35 degrees, then I just fire it right up.

You might want to consider using a timer to come on about 1-2 hours prior to your expected departure. The heater draws about 650 watts so can be expensive to run all night (depending on your cost for electricity and your budget).

Any kind of outdoor timer, like the ones people use for christmas lights. You can get them at home depot for $10.

Well sallyman1 I'm up here in yellowknife & it got to -17c lastnite and mine started just fine with the remote start, I have a Polar Start as well. Not quite sure of the model tho, but my intake heater cycels through just like ur sittin in it with the key on.
I have one question "not to intrude on someone elses post BUT" some times when I start mine with my remote it starts at high idle is that normal when it gets so cold?
