Taht's somethign I had never heard befroe chewy about the limiting stairs and jumping. but it definately makes sense and is a great idea. My only issue might be will a breeder sell a puppy to a college student at all? I'm sure if I get a chance to meet a breeder and speak with them face to face they will understand i'm very responible and know what i'm doing. but you never know. Other than that all looks well just need to get the money and start looking for a litter or upcoming litter and go from there..

If it's a good breeder, my guess is they will require a meeting to discuss why you want the dog and find out your personality also. The breeder we went through has turned down many people because she didn't get a good vibe from them. I wouldn't worry about being a college kid, based on what you asked around here, I dont' see any reason for them not to sell you one.

Oh...and if you do get one, I'd recommend kennel training it. Best thing we ever did with ours....

I don't know much about kennel training because our family never really went on long vacations or anythign so I don't ever remember having to take her to the kennel. I'm guessing by kennel training you mean getting them used to being in a kennel/crate and not going insane like some dogs do? I am hoping for the best I'm gonna write an email to the breeder referal lady later today and go from there.

Yeah..by kennel training I meant getting them used to being in their kennel so they don't freak out. Our is in the kennel while my wife and I are at work and it doesn't bother her a bit. A lot of times she'll go lay in there with the door open. Where we've really noticed the value in it is when my mom and dad watch her if we go somewhere. They watched my aunt and uncles dog one time and the second they kenneled it, it barked, whined and never shut up, so they would leave it out at night and it would get into everything. Where as with our dog, people can be in the same roon and being in her kennel doesn't bother her.

If you can, watch the Dog Whisperer show with Ceaser Milan. I've caught the show a few times and there's things that I've used on our dog with great success. He doesn't teach the sit, stay, come type of stuff. he teaches how to be the pack leader and understand the "wild" instincts of the dog. Sounds kind of stupid, but it works.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I totally agree with ceasar milan. the way to train a dog is to be consistant and to show them you are the pack leader. You can't just tell a dog to sit so manuy times till they do it. you need to show them who's boss basically. but you don't have to be mean to make them see that. that's where so many go wrong with dogs they think to be dominant they have to be abusive. That's why my buddy has issues with his pomeranian. he doesn't teach it who's boss. it has no idea where it is the pack. It used to try and bite me all the time until every time it did i'd shove it away growl or roll it onto it's back and make it submit. now it acts like a normal dog should most of the time. but he got it from a pupy mill I don't expect much out of that dog.

Have a white shepherd. He is not aggressive at all unless you are a steak bone or a tennis ball.... My insurance company never asked about a dog....

I have been told that white shepherds are few and far between. I didn't teach him to fetch bricks. But he will bring back anything that you throw. I go througha pack of tennis ***** weekly. He likes to pop thetennis ***** and chew the cover off of them. If you throw the brick he will chase it down and bring it back.
