Blue Bird school buses...
Does anyone know what engines they use? Also what are they rated hp and torque wise? Ive just always wondered and would like to know. I am guessing international engines, but I could be wrong.
I found it , guess I should have researched it first. They use the Cummins ISB-07 engine rated at 200 hp, Cummins ISC-07 engine rated at 260 hp, and the Cat C7 rated at 290 hp. I need to find out what the majority of buses at my school are powered by, hopefully the cummins
I was a school bus driver in the early '90s during my college days in Minneapolis. I drove a 71-pax Blue Bird, powered by a six cylinder Cummins. It wasn't very powerful; maybe around 200 hp. It had a governor that limited the top speed to 62 mph. School buses are built for durability, since they do so much stop-and-go driving.
Most blue birds are powered by either a 12v ISB 180hp or a 24v ISB 215hp engine. The international buses are mainly powered by a dt 360, dt 466 or dt 466E depending on the year. HP range from about 170 to 230 depending on programming on the 466E. The new IH buses us either the dt466 or dt530 in the CE and RE buses. The FE buses use the vt365 (6.0l as ford calls it). Frieghtliner school buses use the same engines that blue bird does. Thomas buses basically use all the engines listed above but I have mainly seen the dt466 and dt360in them (older thomas buses, we don't see to many new ones in our shop)
