Default Hard Starts

I have been having a problem with hard starts. the truck has been to the dealership 2 times and is scheduled for the third this week. Over the weekend the truck would not start and I removed the fuel filter and put it back in. The truck started right up. Is there a sensor in the Fuel filter assy that could be not working right? The truck also is starting to get a rough idle every once in a while. Any suggestions?

Transfer pump might be going out. Better have them check fuel pressure.
