Default Changing stock air filter

I just took my '07 5.9 liter in for its 2nd oil change. The dealer recommended that I change the air filter as well. My bro-in-law (who is a diesel mechanic) said I got taken since the vaccuum guage on the filter box hadn't been pulled to the red yet. Did I get taken and how often/when are you guys changing the STOCK air filters?

I live in Arizona where it is real dusty. I change mine when the little guage moves 25% of the way.

If you are going to change it with a stock filter... If you have a local Cummins Dealer, you can buy the stock air filter complete with mouse fur fromCummins for about $14 and change it yourself.

As for changing filters, too often never hurt anything.

i did my first oil change at 4400k, (2640mi.), i rotated my tires(dually) and changed my air and fuel filters at 12000k (7200mi.), my next oil change is due right now, 14,500k, (8700mi.), these are milages i picked up from asking q's on this forum, some members may differ but i figure i've got a lot of money invested in this rig, so i might as well take good care of it.
