completely stock around 6 to 8K. Depending on what he does, it can easily go to 50K

Wow...6 to 8k? Is that doing the work yourself or having a shop do it? I was considering this also in the future.

I don't see how it could cost $6k-$8K just to do a stock rebuild yourself. Maybe I am missing something.

well, he didn't ask about doing the work himself. A recon long block with just the head w/valves, pistons and crank will cost the 6 to 8K.

Doing the work yourself and replacing everything new would get you around the 2 to 3K range. The typical charge I've seen to build a engine is 3 to 4K.

I don't know if hes lookin for performance or not. But if he wants to go stock, just order up a reman from cummins, that way ya get a warrenty and all you do is swap over a few parts.
