48RE Tranny Problems
After reading a number of threads concerning Dodge Tranny problems, I went looking around the web and found a number of different opinions on the subject. If I understand correctly, the 48RE is an improved and beefed up version of the 47? That being said, doesanyone know ifthis tranny still has the same problems mentioned in some of the other threads or did Dodge work out some of the bugs?Any information or clarification would be much appreciated.
As a note, one of the guys I work with has an 06 Duramax 2500 HD with 40 000km on it and had his trannyreplaced at under 20 000km. He uses it primarily as a daily driver.

in doing lots of reading and talking to others, the factory transmissions, whether for our Dodge, or for the Ford, or the ever loved Allison is made for STOCK power levels, when you exceed those levels you break stuff.
You have to ask why would a manufacturer add several thousand dollars to a transmission that probably 95 percent of people buying the vehicle don't care about. They build them to withstand the powerplant sold, that's it. You really have to look at the number of people that buy a truck and leave it basically stock versus those that unleash the horsepower possible. Comes down to the almighty dollar!
