If ya want a quick easy way to check .
Just pull the trigger letabout6-7 inchesfeed out .
Then try bending it. If it bends nicely it's solid.
If it bends sharply or breaks it's flux core.
Or you can check by the AWS code on the side.

This is the hood you need. Just take a cutting disk and trim 2 or three inches off of the bottom. I have never had good luck with the ADL hoods if something gets in front of the sensor it will lighten up.

im with ya there i dont really like the Autodark hoods, but the one you have pictured there is the same kind we use at the school, and they are heavy, uncomfortable, and smack into your chest real hard when you flip it down, which is why i bought my own to use at school. not a bad idea though to shave a little off the bottom so it doesnt smack into your chest like that.

You can evan take some off the top to lighten it up a bit. It is the only kind of hood that I will use.

No I ain't very good with stick (lack of experience), I can fix thing around the house but I ain't going to weld pipe with it.

Reason I asked is because stick is the only time I prefer that hood over the auto's. Maybe because I learned stick with one of them hoods.
