Default heating element question

hey guys, I have just plugged my truck in for the first time and I have a few questions. First of all is it ok for me to keep it plugged in all night? My second question is, how much better does it make, like is the truck already warm when you start it or does it just make the truck warm up faster? Thank you for your responses!

I wouldn't bother to plug it in for the whole night. The heater draws 700watts and it'll drive your electric bill nuts. Just put it on a timer to go on about 4 hours before you leave for work. That'll be more than enough time to warm it up.

Pick up an outdoor timer at home depot, like the ones people use for christmas lights. It help for cold starts, truck won't be warm, but warms up faster.

just make sure the timer is rated for the wattage of your block heater as is your cord

Here's what my set-up looks like. I have relocated the outlet to the rear of the truck because I back in to my driveway and also added a battery charger to the mix. Might as well charge the batteries while heating it up !!

Where did you get that plug, that's different from the one at Geno's. Did you pick up the supplies from a hardware store? Tell us how you did this, did you run a longer cord or did you splice wire together, screw the box into the hitch, mount an outdoor plug. Enlighten us? I think I'm gonna do it too!

I thought I did a write up on this when I did it.

Yes, it's a different plug. I got all of the pieces from an electric supply house. Don't bother with Home Depot, they wont have the male plug part. You'll hafta go to a supply house.

Yes, I mounted it right on my hitch. I drilled 2 holes and ran the nuts inside of the hitch.

I ran a 3 outlet 12 gauge electric cord from the box up to the engine compartment. Once there, I plugged the heater cord in and the charger. I have 1 extra outlet because I'm thinking about putting a small ceramic heater in my cab so it too will be all warm and toasty when i hop in.

Nice, see if you can find the write up and let me know, I couldn't find it. Maybe you could ask Steve to put it in the DIY section.
