if you are talking about the 68RE 6spd auto that is behind the 6.7L it is a world of difference and realy makes the engine run good due to gearing. the older 48RE being a 4spd tranny has such a drop in engine RPM's it effected how the engine was run.

it realy isnt that the tranny is what makes the cost so high. . .the engine itself is a 5-8,000 option.

man I'd love to have those two extra gears !!!From what I understand, it's built a lot more stout than the 48 too.

yes but, I don't have a 6 speed. As Drew said... the rpm's really drop from one gear to another with the 48. It may not be as noticable on a more stock truck but, it is on a built one. A tighter geared truck would have a lot more get up and go, be able to spool a larger turbo easier and probably have better mpg. I suppose billet components would hold up better than anything stock but, I hear they're able to handle mre hp than the 48.

that would be the first Ive heard of it.

the 48RE was actualy built off a design from the 47RH that took some design features from teh 727 torque flight. the 48re in stock form is already strung out pretty far for the archetechure(sp? I just got done working out) the 68RE is a complete redesign from the ground up and carries nothing from the 48RE. from what Ive read one of the few ways they could get the 68RE to fail was to have it run low on fluid and run it till it fried to see what happened. another way was to crank thetest standup so high the input shaft failed. . .now what HP was run through it to achieve this I dont know, but from the wording of the text I stumbled across all I could gather was it was in excess of 500-550hp.
