Winter blend diesel will hurt your mileage a lot worse than 500 extra pounds in the bed, plus the extra weight will make it ride better and be more stable. I didn't have my cummins last year, but I had to dig out the 4x4 gasser once. Wasn't fun. I'll have weight in the bed this year.
