Default Off-Road Diesel

Since its much cheaper, and im not hauling commercially, would it hurt my motor to run off-road diesel in it instead of the expensive stuff?

It wont hurt your engine, the only thing that will hurt is if you get caught running it on the road

and by hurt he means HEFTY fines...DOT hates it when you run off-road diesel on-road. I've heard that they can tell if you've had the die in ur tank for a month or so after not running any.

Off road diesel is dyed red and is supposed to be used inoff road equipment only (construction equipment). It cost much less because it is not taxed like regular diesel.

No difference just off road diesel does not have highway taxes add to it thus making it cheaper and it has die in it so they can tell the difference.

If they suspect anything they will put a dipstick in your tank and see if it comes out red. If it does, you're screwed. Don't use it except in construction or farm equipment.

hmm....but the DOT patrols commercial vehicles only, right? i dont think there would be any reason/suspicion to check a regualr passenger truck's fuel.....would the commercial fuel laws regarding that apply to non-commercial drivers such as myself?

Yes. I know for certain here in Montana, even non-commercial drivers are regularaly checked and teargeted. Do what you want, but we told you so...

I hear ya about wanting to give it a try though.

My friend locked in at last years prices for home heating oil ( same stuff ). He's now paying $2.20 a gallon. REALLY makes you start to think about, especially if diesel comtinues to climb.
