How to tell if your truck is chipped?
I have a 2004.5 ram 2500 that i bought used 6 months ago. I dont know previous owner. It had 180000 km when i bought it. now it has 198000 km on it. i never had factory warranty but i have LUBRICO warranty on it through used dealer. My lie-o-meter overhead console says 23-30 mpg constantly on highway empty. Some say i have a chip because of those readings. i know its not accurate and i will figure out mpg one day with a pen and pencil but am wondering where would chip be if i have 1? Under dash? connected to obd2 port? where? Can dealer tell?
ok. mine said 26.8 mpg the other day and it was -5 celcius outside. I resetted it to before i left home. One day in summer time it said 31 mpg (possible wind helping me but still) Whats up. ? on tuesday im going to be bringing my 34 foot rv (8000 lb) home for the winter. Im going to see what it says then out of curiosity. But for ****s and giggles where would a chip be? Under the steering wheel in dash panel or on harness by ecm under hood? i dont have any edge or bullydog monitors so im wondering if it maybe has a chip without a monitor?
I have a power puck and it is connected to some sensors on the the top of the engine and the actual computer could be mounted anywhere on the drivers side under the hood. If someone programmed your truck with a programmer there will be no way to tell unless a dealer can tell or if you try to program it with another programmer it might give you some type of error message. (I'm not 100% sure, but I'm sure someone who knows will chime in shortly.)
Dealers seem to be pretty good bout catchin programmers from what I know, you might have them take a look and see if they find something, I believe they can flash it and reload the stock program into it for you to...not 100%
