How do YOU think a hit & run should be handled ??
I had a similar experience in one of my previous R/T's... I was driving down a 3-lane street in the left lane - the road has a lightcurve to the right, the dumbass next to me in the center lane is apparently not paying attention to the road and doesn't match the turn, drifts rightinto my lane. I smash the horn but the guy's coming over too fast and not regaining his attention span quick enough, so I had to hammer the brakes and drift left, ended up clipping the center median with mywheels/tires, could hear them scrape concrete to metal. At the next light I confront the driver, it's a punk-*** kid and his friend, they're being total jerks. I tell them to pull over because there was damage to my truck, they just laughed their asses off, made an illegal right-turn from the center lane, and zipped off - no way I could match the turn and find them at that point.
I pull off the road, and call the cops - the first dispatcher I get tells me that they will send out a cop to get my story and possibly process a hit & run - give the officer the license plate/vehicle info they say. I sit there for an hour, nobody shows up - I call back, talk to a different dispatcher. This one tells me that a police officer has not been dispatched yet, and that I should come to a station to submit my report. I drive directly to the nearest police station, and talk to the desk officer about filling out my report. At this point Iam told that because I left the scene of the accident (even though I was told to by police dispatch) they couldn't even think about going after the other driver for hit & run, wouldn't even attempt to find the guy. I was instructed to fill out the typical accident report which might as well be printed on toilet paper for as much attention the police are going to give it as far as the accident is concerned, just give it to your insurance agent for processing.

The whole policy just pisses me off. "Dump it off on your insurance company, we're too busy". IMO - What's the difference between being robbed at an ATM and being hit and run? You're out just as much cash
Sucks ...
Sucks ...

There's no way in HELL you are gonna get a TV channel to do a story like that in Philly at all. I don' know if you guy's have heard, but we just on Halloween had a cop killed and the night before had a cop shot in the shoulder. Last week we had 2 moer cops shot. NO WAY you are gonna get a TV reporter to do a show on "lazy cops", no matter how true it may be.
To be perfectly honest wiht you, I'm past the accident. I'm more pissed at the lack of help from the police and thier policy's.

I think if you are caught driving without a license, insurance, leave a scene, anything like that, your car should be IMMEDIATELY impounded and squished that day. No questions asked, no mercy. I'd LOVE to see that inacted !!
However, I think that only applies if English is your first language. So it is acceptable toinjure or even kill someone in a car accident with no repercussions if you are an illegal alien, with no drivers license and no insurance. Afterall, how could we expect you to understand laws written in a language you don't understand.[:@]
Personally, and I don't want to get in to a rant here, but I think if they'd just legalize drugs ALL of this crap would come to an end !! I'd say that 95% of the problems and time occupying things all stem from drugs. Jails and courts are filled with drug users and sellers. Cops are getting shot chasing sellers and users.
WHO CARES ?!?!?!?
Let em have their drugs and kill themselves. I could care less !! I'd much rather have a cop when I need him be able to look into my hit & run situation rather than camp in front of someones house for a week only to bust 2 kids who are hitting the pipe. How are they getting high hurting me? Who gives a $hit?
Legalize it, tax it, and go on with your day.
End of rant ....

If you legalize drugs you open up more usage and abusage, then people (like alcohol) will start driving high more often and my kid playing in the front yard while I am in my garage has a higher probability of a dopey high kid with easier legal access to drugs running him down. I feel and I know I will get banned from the forum here. that a prohibition is in order.
