the Dak owners need to take baby steps with everything. small trucks are a good start

I would like to see a DAk with a 3500lb + rated front axle to hold a cummins 5.9

That would be funny. A Dak with a diesel? I dont think they're front end would hold the motor alone.

You guys are all missing the point.....it's not that they want the Cummins, they just want a diesel motor period.....Personally, I wont buy another truck unless its a diesel.....but I would have kept my Dakota had I been able to get it in a diesel.....

Chrysler has the 3.0L CRD diesel that would be powerful enough to work in the Dakota and do alright....

FYI - The landspeed record for a truck was set by a Cummins powered Dakota......so I wouldnt brag all that much....even better.....it towed all the equipment there....and then RAN those times...

SPAL USA's Rocket Ranger, with a Powerstroke diesel, supposedly set the diesel landspeed record.... earlier this year.....but it didnt beat the speeds that the Sidewinder produced. Unfortunately however, the Sidewinder wound uptearinga pinion gear set off and wasnt able to finish its last run at full speed....thus lowering its then record.

asside from a slightly beefed up front suspension, and a little work to the firewall, the ISB will fit. a 4BT would suit better though.

Jeff Garmon's first diesel dragster was a cummins powered dakota. . .a big problem was there wasnt enough weight on the rear axel so the tires would break traction very easy.

Dakota owners simply want a better engine, because the morons at Dodge decided to replace an older250hp/345tq motor with a 235hp/290tq motor even though all the other trucks on the market were getting dramatically better motors. Dodge partially (but not fully) pulled their heads out of their asses with the new 302hp 4.7L V8, but it's still a lame replacement when they have had the Hemi available since 2002.

I'd love to have a CTD because of its torque and aftermarket capabilities, but I don't want to have to spend as much as a small house nor drive a truck as big as one to get it.
