Default Anyone have A/C problems?

I am just curious how many CTD owners are haveing or have had problems with the A/C system.
I live in the DEEP Southwest (Houston Tx) and it's still warm down here. From day one off the showroom floor, mine has had issues. It takes about 15 minutes for the cab to cool down and the air from the vents doesn't feel that cold at all. When I stop at a red light, the air starts to blow warm as I take off for about 10seconds.
About 2 months ago, I woke up one morning, started the truck, and the A/C just sat there kicking on and off and wild voltages swings. It was actualy making the engine rpm's surge. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the compressor. Said that it was getting to much voltage and fried it.
Well I still have the other issues even with the compressor replaced. It still sucks and takes forever to cool off the truck. I have had many trucks and all have been Chevy's this is my first Dodge product and I love it. But am I just use to Chevy A/C or what? Does Mopar just suck for A/C systems?
Oh and even when it's just 80 deg. outside, I still have the same issues. My 2002 chevy would have ice around the vents in 100 degree weather, maybe I'm just spoiled?

Yeah, A/C lacks a little, seen numerous complaints on the forums. My Quad is the same, takes a while to cool, use the recycle it seems to work better. Just be glad you don't have a Mega Cab, all that room is hard to cool on a hot day.

My wife's Ford windstar's A/C will freeze your nipples off. And that's a lot of cabin space to cool on a hot day.

I can't/won't use recycle. I smoke in my truck and if you use recycle, it will start to smell like dirty *** after a while. Learned that with my last truck. I could spend $150 detailing it and it smelled nice, but soon as you kick on the Air, it smells like crap.
Do you have the issues with it blowing warm when you "stop-n-go" ?

My trucks an 06 bought it used and the previous owner took great maint records and I know nothing of an A/C prob, trucks A/C is cold as Ice but still takes a min. to cool off which I feel is normal..

My old truck 04 gasser A/C was cold when I bought it but got kinda warm after 3 years pry just need to get recharged at least thats what I assumed, my friends is 3 years old and its warm and the fan seems to have gotten weak on him, hardly pushes out air on high

As for the surge I haven't had any trouble with recent models,I had anold 91 dodge stealth surged really bad with the A/C on but obviously thats over 15 year old tech and wasn't CTD...how sweet would that of been a CTD Stealth...lol

While I'm running at a reasonable speed (>30mph), I get decent cold air from the vents, stopped in traffic it's cool air at best, compressor can't keep up at idle speeds. I've found that not using the recycle on a hot day is damned near impossible to keep up, too much sheet metal and glass working against you.

Yeah tell me about it. Black was definatly not my first choice. I got a hell of a deal on the truck and it just happened to be black. So now I own the hardest to keep clean, easiest to show scratches truck in the world!!

Been there, done it, and won't ever do it again.

Black looks damned good clean, but holy crap it shows everthing, dirt, scratches, swirls....

You have to run in recirc just do what I don't as I smoke cigars leave your window down a little to suck the smoke out and I keep a can of Ozium to kill the germs and smell, I do it mostly so I won't be dragging cigar smoke in people's houses while I'm there working.

Oh and take it out of recirc before you shut it down or you get a really bad smell when you restart and once a month spray a heavy dose of Ozium to sanitize the system.

And you can get Ozium at your local auto store or pilot supply store

Default RE: Anyone have A/C problems?

I played around with my A/C this summer when it was about 95 degrees.
I thought the A/C was lacking, so I put a thermometer in the center dash vent and drove it for a week or two to work out what temp it put out vs. vehicle speed.
What I found was that after discounting other factors, my truck blew 38 degree air at idle, but only about 45 at freeway speed (at 95 degrees ambient).
So I looked up what the system pressures are supposed to be in the shop manual and put my A/C guages on the system.
What I found was that my pressures were O.K., but they were at the very low end of the acceptable range. I decided to add 134 to bring the needles closer to the higher end of the acceptable range and see if that would help. When I did this, I noticed that the A/C started blowing warmer air at idle (about 45 degrees) but the temps went down to about 34 degrees at freeway speed.
I found that this was basically due to the condenser being so far in front of the radiator and fan that at idle it doesn't get much air flow unless the truck is moving, and it's compunded by the fact that the fan clutch almost never engages when idling--the engine just doesn't need it.

IMO, the fixwould simply be a large eletric fan mounted on the condenser combined with 134 pressure at the higher end of the acceptable range, but the condenser is already so close to the grill that it would have to be a very thin fan.[:@]

Another fix that came to mind was to put a relay on the fan clutch so that when the compressor cycles, the fan clutch would engage. I don't know if it could be made to work, since the PCM controls everything, it might screw up the PCM??
I do know that at idle with the A/C on, the fan clutch would only engage for about 30 seconds every 10 minutes or so. If it could be made to stay on, I think the A/C would work better.
So, what is the posibility that this could be remedied with programming at the dealership?
