OT - Iraqi Vets to be Scrooged by the Pentagon
Just heard on the news this morning the Pentagon is threatening injured Iraqi vets with a lawsuit if they refuse to re-pay portions of enlistment bonuses due to inability to complete their enlistment terms. Apparently, having your legs blown off or suffering other dibilitating injuries in war is not an excuse to keep any bonus money when you get booted out of service for not being able to complete your enlistment.
I don't know about you guys, butI think this is incredibly wrong. Probably some geek major or full bird desk jockey that came up with this brilliant idea.
Write your congressman, contact your reps and get these morons slapped!

I feel their pain. . .I couldnt recieve the other half of my re-enlistment bonus due to the fact I took a Federal Technician possition[:@]
I am still in the guard, but due to the wording in one sentence in some sort of contract congress has between the guard and the federal employees I cannot get any more bonuses.
$2500 would have gone a long way very quick

This isn't some new idea. It's in the enlistment contract everybody signs. It states that if you cannot complete your service obligation for whatever reason, you will repay any remaining balance of your enlistment bonus. No, I don't agree with it, but until somebody high enough gets the regulations changed or puts out an exception to policy, rules are rules. Now that this policy has made front page news, hopefully it won't take long for the appropriate changes to be made.

2/3's of the country already hates the war and dislikes Bush.....but this alone would make it even worse if he doesnt fix it...
Now what to do with all the guys/gals that have been medically discharged that have had disability checks withheld until their enlistment bonus remaining balance was repaid? Hopefully they get the money back too.
There's a guy from Pittsburgh that lost his eye in Iraq. He has to pay back his bonus (bone-us) because he was medically discharged and can't fullfill his obligation now. At least he's raising a whole bunch of **** about it so maybe they'll fix it. If he was an illegal immigrant they would sure as hell take care of him.
Well they just didn't give me my $18k+ bonus anyways something about when I enlisted they needed ppl in my job and 7months later when I went to boot they didn't [:@]
