dont the fan blades have clutches of some sort in them?

 

viscous fan clutch. If the clutch is engaged, you aint gonna stop that fan. It'll break before it slips the clutch or the belt. On my old chevy I had one of them flex fans (steel fan was so sharp it cut you just by putting it in) and it didn't have a clutch. That fan saved my radiator when a stick tried to poke through it from the back side. Fan was bent up a little and for some reason I had woodchips all over my engine

 

It was a lot of fun for being mild. Thanks. I ususally don't play in teh water but for a photo opportunity it was worth it.
